Blog post #7

In the book "Crossing Lines" by Paul Volponi, the main character Adonis is a senior in high school and is in the football team. What happens in the book is that Adonis thinks Alan is gay and since he wants to go out with this one girl named Melody, he has to see Alan everyday. Alan is the president of the fashion club and Melody is part of the club. Adonis's friends make fun of him for hanging out with Alan and they "mess" with him. In one part of the book, Adonis told Melody that he liked her perfume but she said she didn't have any. That's when Alan said it was his perfume and one of Adonis's friend was there to see it all happen. Then his friend made fun of him during football practice. Adonis hangs out with Alan since they have to do a project together for English so his friends make fun of him.

I feel like this book relates to what's happening to me right now in school. In school, I have a group of "friends" that I sit with at lunch and for the school field trip, we had everything planned out that we were going to be in a group, like all five of us. At the end of the day, one of my friends told me that I wasn't in the group anymore since they added someone else instead of me and I got really mad. I saw the other two girls in the group and I started asking them why they just replaced me like that and stormed off. I heard them taking crap about me as I went down the stairs. Adonis and I both are getting mistreated by our friends and we change our attitude just to be their friend. Like Adonis lost all of his weight to be friends with them and he tolerated them making fun of him so he could be friends with them. I made sure I talked about the stuff they talked about like gossip or other things like that and one of the girls made fun of me for the way that I talked Spanish. I got mad but I just laughed it off like it was nothing. My Spanish isn't that amazing since I was never taught Spanish in
school, just in my house from my family speaking it. Those are some of the reasons why my life experience relates to Adonis's in this book.
